I am pleased to advise that the Australia Day Parade was a success from the Tongan outlook.
We had a large number of Tongans take part in the parade, including members of TCASA, TCR & other non members.
It was agreed by the TCASA Committee that we should have a BBQ at the end of the parade. I contacted the SAMEAC to see if this was ok. They checked with the Adelaide City Council (ACC) who advised that they would not permit a BBQ to be allowed, due to the fact that there were a number of caterers nearby, who had paid to set up their stalls. I then contacted a number of committee members who agreed that as it was probably going to be a hot day, we should seek another source of lunch, i.e Assorted Subway Rolls for the adults & McDonald’s for the kids.
As it turned out, it was a hot day & the lunch provided from TCASA’s funds proved very popular & easy to handle.
Before the parade, we were visited by Hieu Van Le, the Deputy Governor of SA, & Michael Harbison, the Lord Mayor of the ACC, both who wanted to meet the Tongan Community & we were congratulated by both of them for our efforts.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who took part in the parade, those who helped to decorate the truck & those who organised the luncheon. It was a fun day, which helped the Tongan Community to once again get together & show South Australia a piece of our pride & culture.
